Milwaukee Avenue
Not the most relaxing or prettiest cycling street in Chicago (that would be Wolcott between Winnemac and Diversey), as the fastest way downtown from bike-crazy Logan Square, Bucktown and Wicker Park, Milwaukee’s the most important bicycle route in the city. With its fixie traffic jams, speeding cars and jaywalking d-bags at North and Damen, it’s the street cyclists love to hate. But new pavement and bike lanes have made it a hell of a lot better than the potholed nightmare it once was. According to CDOT, in recent years bicycle traffic doubled on the “Hipster Highway.”
