Best unexpected place to see contemporary art

Harold Washington Library Center

In addition to a trove of Chicago art sprinkled throughout the massive building, the library has a display case dedicated to rotating solo presentations of contemporary artists on the eighth floor. It’s not a huge space, but in times of shrinking budgets it’s good to see the library supporting a living practice. It’s not the usual suspects, either; under-known or emerging artists are getting some exposure here.
