Loba Pastry + Coffee
At Loba, which former Bad Wolf Coffee pastry maven Val Ballado opened after her boss moved to Charleston, the pastries might be draw number one but the coffee carries its weight too. The Scorpion Chocolate Iced Espresso is, naturally, espresso (not cold brew) mixed with a ganache (not chocolate syrup) laced with Trinidad scorpion (the second hottest pepper on record). It’s refreshing, spiced just right and maybe even seductive with the deft touch of Ballado’s pastry talents.
